Michele Chu is a seasoned, award-winning graphic designer. Currently she is working with clients in publication design, branding and identity projects. Her specialty is visual presentation of stories and concepts. In her work she strives for clarity and elegance.
Formerly Michele was the Art Director of Monitor on Psychology, the magazine for the American Psychological Association. She was also with National Geographic Traveler, where she designed for the print magazine as well as adapted stories for the interactive tablet platform, enhancing them with additional contents such as photo galleries, audio and video.
Prior to that, she was the art director at US News & World Report, where she coordinated with editors, writers, photographers, illustrators, and designers to display stories in a visually engaging form, often working on tight deadlines. She collaborated on various redesigns of the magazine through the years to continuously refresh the brand.
Before joining US News, Michele was with Eason Associates, a graphic design studio in Washington, D.C., focusing on publication design and corporate identity. She also has a background in newspaper design working at the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.
She has won numerous awards from the Society of Publication Designers, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Art Directors Club of Los Angeles, the Art Directors Club of New York, the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington and the Society of Newspaper Designers.
Michele graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and is originally from Hong Kong. She grew up speaking Cantonese, understands some Mandarin, and reads and writes Chinese. For relaxation, she does crossword puzzles.
